[NightSHIFT Press] Page 1 0f 2
The NightSHIFT Press is most certainly up (into the wee hours) and running....at studio 300A in the ICB in Sausalito's Marinship District.
300A is a very grand spot on the third floor with a great view of the bay. Still some details to work out, but we are fully functional and cranking away. We have dubbed our press; [NightSHIFT Press.]
Here is a sample of some miscellaneous new works hot off the press by Barry Peterson. In this sample you will see one and two run Xerox Transfers on the etching press--some are from the San Joaquin / Sacramento River Delta Project, which is a work in progress for the two artists--more on this later. With the two-run prints, we make tonal separations of the original drawings with the Xerox machine and mix up two colors of ink, one for each separation. Then we run the print paper through the press twice, once with each color. Registration is as always, a bit tricky. But sometimes even the slightly out-of-register prints turn out pretty good, and sometimes the better for it. It really depends on the choices you made in making the tonal separations, and the inks you assigned to each separation. We have experimented with 3-run prints (3 separations), but we begin to lose clarity in the imagery and the graphic "punch" we like.
